Vibration Monitoring for Gearboxes
Vibration Monitoring for Gearboxes
Gearboxes benefit from diagnostic vibration data because gears, shafts and bearings generate different characteristic frequencies as their condition changes.
Gear condition
Gear-mesh components and sidebands can provide diagnostic information.
Rolling bearings
Suitable high-frequency measurements can support early bearing-condition assessment.
Installation
Alignment, foundation stiffness and looseness can influence the complete vibration signature.
Practical measurement approach
Place sensors close to the bearings and components of interest. Use adequate measurement bandwidth and spectral analysis rather than depending only on overall vibration.
Use VibSys with the IEPE sensor that fits the job
Istec VibSys A01 is a four-channel platform for scalable vibration condition monitoring. Multiple units can be placed near selected machines as monitoring coverage expands.
Compatible standard 2-wire IEPE accelerometers can be used; VibSys is not locked to Istec sensors. This makes it possible to select sensors around measurement range, frequency response, temperature, environment and plant standards.
VibSys is intended for condition monitoring and diagnostics. Dedicated safety, trip and machinery-protection functions should remain on systems designed for those duties.
