Vibration Monitoring

ISTEC VIBSYS A01 · MACHINE CONDITION MONITORING

Every machine has a story.
Start listening.

The pump is running. Production continues. But what is changing beneath the surface?

Every rotating machine has a story. Vibration data can help your maintenance team understand it—and decide what deserves a closer look.

Monitoring begins with the machine and the maintenance question you want to answer.

From a working pump to a better-informed maintenance decision

Picture a motor-driven pump in your plant. It works through shift after shift, moving fluid through a process that depends on its availability. For the maintenance team, the question is practical: what should we inspect, and when?

A monitoring project starts by deciding what you need to learn about that machine. Which measurement points matter? Under what operating conditions should readings be compared? Who will review the data and decide on the next action?

Vibration monitoring adds measured evidence to those decisions. Its value comes from the complete chain: a suitable sensor, a sound installation, reliable data acquisition and a clear analysis workflow.

1. Start where the machine tells its story

During a planned shutdown, with the equipment safely isolated, a technician installs a suitable vibration sensor at a selected measurement point. The mounting arrangement and cable route are part of the measurement—not afterthoughts.

For a motor-and-pump installation, measurement points should be selected to suit the machine and the monitoring objective. The sensor needs a suitable mounting surface, and the cable needs protection from the conditions around it.

MK-Controls Oy helps you select the sensors, cables and mounting accessories for your VibSys A01 project.

2. Bring the signal into VibSys A01

Istec VibSys A01 is the First Edition of the VibSys vibration-monitoring system. It provides four channels for 2-wire IEPE vibration sensors, bringing measurements from multiple points into one monitoring unit.

The A01 release includes Modbus TCP connectivity and a defined set of predefined extractions. These capabilities provide a starting point for a monitoring installation whose connections and analysis requirements can be specified around your application.

After installation and configuration, the machine returns to service. The focus moves from fitting the equipment to understanding the data it produces under operating conditions.

3. Turn measurements into a useful history

A reading becomes more useful when it has context. Was the machine operating at a comparable speed and load? Has the pattern changed since the previous review? Does that change call for further investigation?

VibSys A01 supports a direct connection to Istec Sphere for cloud-based vibration analysis. Sphere access is selected separately through a device subscription, so the hardware and software scope should be considered together.

A trend is evidence for assessment, rather than an automatic diagnosis. Your team's review process connects that evidence to inspections, maintenance planning and follow-up measurements.

Measure. Monitor. Understand. Plan.

Start with a machine you know. Define the question you want to answer. Build the monitoring system around that decision.

A01 capabilities, clearly specified

This article concerns VibSys First Edition A01. Istec's roadmap distinguishes it from the future M40 release. M40 functions should not be assumed to be included in an A01 installation. We will help confirm the applicable hardware, release scope and accessories when preparing your quotation.
