What does your application need?

Measure running speed

Use speed feedback for rotating machinery such as motors, pumps and fans. Define both the lowest and highest speed of interest.

Recognise a stopped shaft

Standstill or creep detection needs more than a nominal maximum RPM. Specify how close to zero the system must operate.

Bring the signal to the controller

Plan the sensor, cable, signal interface and receiving device together. Verify electrical compatibility across the chain.

A better enquiry starts here

Four steps towards the right selection.

Describe the target

Include material, wheel diameter, tooth count and geometry. A photo or drawing helps establish a useful starting point.

Define the speed range

Provide minimum and maximum RPM and whether standstill, direction or acceleration information is needed.

Check the installation

Specify available space, mounting thread, temperature, vibration and cable route. Follow the selected sensor’s alignment and air-gap instructions.

Define the receiving device

Tell us the supply voltage, input type and required signal format. Include existing instrument part numbers when replacing equipment.

Before you order.

Will every speed sensor detect zero speed?

No. Low-speed and standstill performance depend on sensing principle and the exact product. Specify the requirement before choosing a sensor.

Is there one air gap for all sensors?

No. Use the air gap and target requirements in the selected sensor’s documentation. The illustration is a schematic, not an installation dimension.

Illustrations show application concepts. Confirm the selected product’s ratings, compatibility and installation requirements in its documentation. Manufacturer reference: Istec speed sensors.
